Following a successful loan spell at the club, Aston Villa academy graduate Callum O’Hare has signed a three-year contract with Coventry City. O’Hare spent the 2019/20 season on loan with the Sky Blues, quickly becoming a fan-favourite during the club’s promotion-winning campaign.

O’Hare is the third player to sign for City since the club’s promotion to the Championship, following the arrivals of Gustavo Hamer and Julien Dacosta earlier this month.

O’Hare was an important part of promotion

O’Hare, an attack-minded central midfielder, was an integral member of the squad that guided Coventry to the League One title last season, scoring four goals and contributing seven assists in 40 appearances for the club.

Praised for his contributions on both sides of the ball, the Solihull-born midfielder is reported to have attracted interest from numerous clubs from the second tier.

Coventry manager Mark Robins had been keen to bring O’Hare back to the club following City's promotion. “Callum has been one of our main transfer targets as we prepare for the Championship campaign,” Robins told the club's website.

“We know what great attributes Callum has and the quality he can bring to the side, as he showed in his contribution to our League One winning campaign. He is a popular member of the squad, and I know fans will welcome his arrival.”

’I’m glad to be back’

In a statement on social media, O’Hare said: “Everyone saw last what we did, and that’s why I wanted to come back. I really enjoy everything about the football club, so I’m glad to be back”.

O’Hare’s arrival is a statement of the Championship-bound Sky Blues. In what was the midfielder’s first full season as a senior player, O’Hare was gradually integrated into the Coventry line-up, before becoming a key player at the turn of the year.

O’Hare last featured in the Championship in 2017/18, making four substitute appearances for Aston Villa.
