Liverpool were better in the second half, Jurgen Klopp gave them a very good team talk but it just wasn't enough to turn the tie around. 

 The six time European Champions  paid a big price for some horrible defending. However Liverpool have been in this position many times and have beaten all the odds at Anfield.

Lets hope the reds can pull of another miracle, but Real Madrid are in cruise control of the tie heading to Anfield!

HALFTIME IN THE TIE!

A dissapointing night for the reds as they lose 3-1 in Madrid who have it all to do in next week's second leg at Anfield.

Vinicius Junior scored twice and Marco Asensio added another, but Mohamed Salah did bag an all important away goal for Jurgen Klopp side.

 The reds will go back to Merseyside hoping they can turn this around but without fans it will be a huge task. 

We are now entering into the final few minutes of the game as four minutes are added on.

Real Madrid are very compact and Liverpool are trying to break them down as the visitors look for a second goal.

Into the final five minutes and Rodrygo replaces Vinicius Junior.

Fabinho has moved back into defence.

We are approaching the final 10 minutes of the Champions League Quarter final first leg. 

Real Madrid are very comfortable in possession as they continue to pass and probe.

However reds are still looking for another away goal to stay in the tie ahead of the second leg at Anfield. 

Vinicius Junior goes on another dangerous run as the reds are open once again as he finds Benzema, whose low shot is comfortably saved to his left by Alisson. At the other end, Jota heads wide from Salah’s cross.

Real extend their lead as Modric moved infield from the right and played a square pass to Vinicius Junior, 15 yards out. His first-time shot went through the legs of Phillips and then through the hands of the diving Alisson. 

Diogo Jota NEARLY equalises for Liverpool! Real Madrid go up the other end and nearly extend their lead but a block from Trent Alexander Arnold stopped the reds conceding another goal

Toni Kroos hits the ball just wide of Alisson goal! The opportunity came after a mistake from Thiago, An escape for Liverpool 

Salah’s cross is taken off Mane’s head by Vazquez, a vital interception. The ball runs across the area to Robertson, whose cutback is blocked.

Jota just heads the ball wide with a header from a very long Alexander-Arnold cross field pass.

Nothing comes from the Liverpool set piece. 

Liverpool are continously trying to create clear cut chances but can't seem to break the stubborn Real Madrid defence.

Liverpool have started the second half well as they have put a few passes together in the middle of the park as they try to create any real threat.

The Real Madrid right back receives a yellow card for challenge on Diogo Jota and Liverpool get a freekick.

That was a nightmare half for the reds. They were impotent in attack and, after a solid start, but as the match went on they became a bag of nerves in defence.

However the hosts  were good without being exceptional, and unpicked Liverpool with a series of long passes from Toni Kroos. His brilliant vision and range of passes led to both goals, scored by Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio, and it would have been worse but for a very good save by Alisson just before the break.

The whistle is blown for half time in Madrid. 

Real Madrid lead 2-0 goal from Vinicious and Asensio who have put the hosts in the driving seat.

Its going to be a massive team talk for Jurgen Klopp as he tries to change things ahead of the second half.

Jurgen Klopp has made a very early substitution Thiago Alcantara is on for Naby Keita.

Yellow Card- Mane is booked for dissent, as he continues to protest about the earlier challenge from Lucas Vazquez before Asensio made it 2-0 to Madrid.

That was a terrible goal to give away. Kroos, near the halfway line, lofted a pass through the inside-left channel towards Vinicius Junior.

Alexander-Arnold got there first but headed the ball across the face of the penalty area, straight to Asensio. His first shot was half stopped by Alisson but Asensio was able to run the ball into the net.

GOALLL!! 2-0

Liverpool have been so disappointing.The half time team talk will be very interesting but it’s hard to understand the sheer sluggishness of Liverpool’s performance

Liverpool gave the ball away and Karim Benzema was away and was one on one against Ozan Kabak who was very calm in the situation but it resulted in a Real Madrid corner

Liverpool are slowly coming into the game putting a few passes together.

It’s still pretty cagey. Madrid’s passing has been better than Liverpool but neither side has created any clear chances.

 Fabinho has started strongly, with and without the ball. 

A brilliant ball played into the SIX yard box by Trent Alexander Arnold is superbly headed away by Lucas Vazquez, who was facing his own goal and had Mane waiting behind him to score.

15 minutes gone -Liverpool have barely had a kick in Real Madrid’s half so far. Far too careless in possession at times. Real will be delighted with this start, although Real Madrid have a potential penalty appeal waved away with a challenge on Modric however no real clear cut chances as of yet. 

We are ten minutes into the game Real Madrid are keen to press Fabinho as quickly and as often as possible so far. Kroos is pushing right on the Brazilian as soon as he receives the ball. Liverpool haven’t really settled so far, seem a bit nervous in possession, which is unlike them.

Liverpool really haven’t got to grips with this game so far. Bit too much space in midfield for my liking already. Real are the team doing all the pressing, and it will be interesting to see how long they can keep that up.

Liverpool had a real chance there as Robertson sprinted forward with it. Jota had made a great run right through the middle but he wasn’t spotted. It was laid off to Wijnaldum instead who slipped and Madrid came forward. It was a really strong run by Jota off the ball.

Real Madrid have settled very well here. They clearly know that keeping the ball is the best way they can hurt Liverpool.

Real Madrid were not at their best in the group stages of this season competition, winning just three of their six Group B fixtures, but they managed to claim 10 points to finish at the top of the section.

Talented Italian outfit Atalanta BC were their opponents in the round of 16, but it proved to be a relatively routine tie for Zidane team, who recorded a 1-0 victory away from home in the first leg before winning 3-1 in the Spanish capital to progress to the final eight of the competition courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate scoreline.

Jurgen Klopp's side lost at home to Atalanta in the group stages of this season's Champions League but still managed to top the section, picking up 13 points from their six matches against Atalanta, Ajax and FC Midtjylland.

The English giants were drawn against dangerous opposition in the round of 16, but the Reds beat high flying RB Leipzig 2-0 home and away to comfortably progress with an aggregate scoreline of 4-0 to reach the ;inal eight of Europe's leading competition.

The Six times European Champions Liverpool have had a rollercoaster of a season full of highs and lows winning four of their last six games in all competitions.

The visitors were short on confidence when they lost 1-0 to relegation strugglers Fulham Anfield on March the 7th but since then they have been in impressive form.

Their recent victory came at the Emirates Stadium vs Arsenal it was perfect;preparation for their trip to the Spanish capital

Two of the European cup most successful clubs meet again in a repeat of the 2018 Champions League Final.

The reds will be seeking for revenge after that defeat in Kiev in 2018.
