Manchester City made sure that they made the most of their home advantage on Tuesday night, securing 1-0 victory against Atletico Madrid.

Pep Guardiola spoke to the press following the game to give his thoughts on what was a hot-blooded affair.

On His Substitutes

"The guys were playing well, but we know with Gabriel [Jesus] and Phil [Foden] had a special energy, and Jack [Grealish] the quality to keep/play the ball.

"Today, the manager was so clever."

On Kevin De Bruyne

"He’s in the best moment of the season right now - he is sharp, he’s quick, positive and his influence now again is massive and he made an exceptional goal with his combination with Phil [Foden]."

On Atletico

"Tough opponent. For 25-30 minutes they played 5-5. We were patient enough except the first 5-10 minutes of second half.

"We didn't attack with the right rhythm, but yeah, it's a good result. Unfortunately we had more chances but 1-0 to go to Madrid is tough."

On The Second Leg In Madrid

"We played an incredible top side which is difficult to face. We had chances to score, especially a second and third.

"We had to be focused with that we do as it is not easy to face this team. We will go there to try and score a goal and with the game."

On Controlling Emotions In Madrid

"We have to control our emotions and do what we have to do [in Madrid]. There will be a referee there in an incredible stadium, a good environment."
