Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Wolves: Afobe and Edwards give visitors deserved win

Wolverhampton Wanderers made a statement of their ambition for promotion from the Championship with a deserved 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers in their first game of the season. Wolves duo Benik Afobe and Dave Edwards struck either side of a comical equaliser from Ben Marshall in the first half, before a breathless opening 45 was followed by a more restrained second period. Wolves boss Kenny Jackett will be satisfied with his side's performance as the visitors showed few signs of missing former favourite Bakary Sako, but the result will pile early pressure on Gary Bowyer with his Rovers side predicted to struggle in the new season. Blackburn with the early pressure Despite the loss of star forward Rudy Gestede and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Jordan Rhodes, it was Blackburn who threatened first and could have been ahead with less than two minutes played. Marshall teed up Rhodes and the Scotland international released a searing shot toward goal, but his 25-yard strike cannoned off...

Chickens coming home to roost

Chickens coming home to roost ByMichael Black

So, it’s bye bye Berg? Well done Venky’s. Don’t get me wrong, Berg wasn’t the right man for the job, but he was certainly on a hiding to nothing.   The simple facts are Berg took over a squad any sane person can see isn’t fit for purpose....
Heading the right way

Heading the right way

Two draws and a defeat isn't the best start a new manager could make at a club, but in the case of Henning Berg and Rovers it's not that big a surprise. A club stripped of any semblance of common sense over the past couple of years, the Rovers job...
Welcome to the madhouse

Welcome to the madhouse

So it's Henning Berg? After almost five weeks of having everyone and his dog linked to the Rovers managerial vacancy, Berg's the man they've seemingly settled on.   There was never going to be an appointment who suited everyone. Holloway, Solskjaer, Redknapp, Flitcroft and my dearly departed Grandma have...
