Liverpool Ladies have completed the signing of England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain.

The former Arsenal stopper has had a difficult year in which she has struggled to play regular football, which resulted in her being left out of Mark Sampson's latest Lionesses squad last month.

Consequently, she will be looking to get her career back on track with this move, claiming the number one shirt and seemingly being the Reds' first choice in between the sticks for the 2016 season following the departure of Libby Stout.

Disappointing year

It's been a tough 2015 for Chamberlain both at club and international level. She struggled for game time at Arsenal, whom she started the season with, making just one league appearance before the summer's World Cup.

She made Sampson's 23-player squad for that tournament, and made one appearance off the bench in Canada when she replaced first choice Karen Bardsley in the quarter-finals - the Manchester City goalkeeper having to come off due to a problem with her eye.

Chamberlain will not have been expecting a great deal of game time there with Bardsley ahead of her in the pecking order, but she was expecting more at club level and so a loan move to Notts County materialised after the summer's big event, with the 32-year-old brought in to replace the injured Carly Telford.

Once Telford returned to full fitness though, it was a slow end to the season for Chamberlain on the substitute's bench.

New chapter

It's no surprise that the experienced stopper is so excited about her move to Merseyside then, describing it as a "fantastic" one and adding that she "cannot wait to get started," speaking to Liverpool's official FAWSL website.

Liverpool had a tough campaign this year, finishing second-from-bottom in a very poor attempt to defend their title, and so Chamberlain is hoping to "bring some experience to the team" in order to aid them in 2016.

She is looking to help them return to the "great success" they have enjoyed "over the past few seasons" too, the team having lifted the WSL 1 title in both 2013 and 2014.

Manager Scott Rogers is also pleased with the signing, having recently taken over from the departed Matt Beard who has joined American side Boston Breakers - taking the club's former number one, Stout, with him.

Rogers described Chamberlain's arrival as "important" for the club because of her "crucial" experience. He called her "an outstanding goalkeeper" who he is "delighted" to have the chance to work with ahead of the new season.

Chamberlain is the new manager's first signing of the off-season, but he will be hoping she is not the last after a whole host of departures.
