Jürgen Klopp insisted that Simon Mignolet is the "perfect" goalkeeper for Liverpool after the Belgian committed his long-term future to the club on Monday.

The 27-year-old extended the deal he signed when he joined from Sunderland in the summer of 2013, tying him down until 2021 at Anfield.

Having spoken of his willingness to take on greater responsibility after putting pen-to-paper, Klopp believes the custodian has all the tools to be his No.1 for the coming years.

Klopp: "Mignolet gives the team a good feeling"

The Reds boss also insisted that Mignolet has time on his side to further adapt and improve his game.

The manager, speaking to reporters at Melwood, said that there has been "a lot of games" since he came into the club and said that Mignolet, "as is normal for a goalkeeper" was involved in "one or the other goals" they have conceded.

He acknowledged that he and his backroom staff have "thought about it all" and concluded that Mignolet is "perfect" for the club because he's "smart" and "young enough to develop in the things he has to develop", adding that he gives the entire team "a good feeling" when he's "in the starting line-up" which the German called "really important."

Deal did not take much thinkings, suggests Klopp

Klopp admitted that they "thought about it" and said that they "want to work together with him for the next few years" which is why they offered him the new deal.

He said that the 'keeper "took it" and is now a Liverpool player "for the next few years" and added that he can "hopefully" think "about the next contract too with him" and argued that then that should show they "have had success."

Klopp added that he's "really satisfied with this position" and insisted that they are not looking for another first-choice 'keeper in the near future, so now they "can go on."
