Claude Puel has told Southampton fans that they should enjoy Virgil van Dijk and his fantastic performances as long as he is wearing the red and white strip.

The centre-back was yet again solid, as Saints fought hard to grind out a goalless draw against free scoring Liverpool on Saturday afternon.

His form this season has not gone unnoticed and has caught the eye of a few big clubs to come and swoop the Dutchman away from the South Coast.

Although all the talk of this, boss Puel is quite relaxed and insists that enjoy his services while he is still here.

What does the future hold?

The Frenchman has said that they will see in the future what happens but for now "he is with us" and he is enjoying having him in his squad.

Saints' boss also said that the club want to keep him because they have great ambition for the future and they "will see" what the future holds.

Van Dijk needs to "continue to develop" as a player, whether that’s here or somewhere else to be a great, commented Puel.

Jürgen Klopp was a admirer of him after his performance against Liverpool, which was branded by boss Puel “it’s not a surprise” due to his consistency, and if a league title challenger came in with big money in January then maybe it would be hard to turn down.

But Puel said that it’s not just a one off he produces his quality, “since the beginning of the season” van Dijk has continuously produced.

Money Talks

Van Dijk is linked Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool for a move away in January, with the big clubs all believed to be battling for his signature.

In the same game Puel handed Sofiane Boufal a first Premier League start for the club since his record £16m move, and the boss was impressed with his display.
