Hjulmand managed Nordsjælland for three years between 2011 and 2014, when he took over the vacant managerial role left by Thomas Tuchel at Mainz, and apparently has Bech high on his list of targets.
Mainz have been searching for a striker since Nicolai Müller signed for Bundesliga rivals Hamburger SV.
And the 21 year old seems the perfect fit to replace Müller, with his speed and attacking prowess, not to mention the fact that he is of course familiar with the manager at the Coface Arena.
Bech, who is a member of the Danish youth team, has scored 4 goals in 4 appearances so far this season in the Superliga and is said to cost around 15 million Krone (£1.6m).
Hjulmand's rein at the 05ers hasn't gotten off to the best of starts, after they were knocked out of Europa League qualifying by Greek side Asteras Tripolis, but he will have the chance to redeem himself when their Bundesliga campaign kicks off against new boys SC Paderborn in a fortnight.
