SC Freiburg have used the option to recall their goalkeeper, Alexander Schwolow, from DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

The 22-year-old has been on Freiburg's books since he moved from SV Wehen Wiesbaden back in 2008.

He was subsequently loaned out to Arminia to gain some game time last season, though he turned out to be one of the club's key players.

Schwolow featured 37 times for the Westphalian outfit, helping them make an immediate return to the 2. Bundesliga. Perhaps his best performances came in the DFB-Pokal, where he was the penalty shoot-out hero against Hertha BSC and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Freiburg's Jochen Saier confirmed the news to German sports magazine, kicker, on Monday. Schwolow was originally meant to be with Bielefeld until 2016, but will instead return to Christian Streich's side..

This all but confirms the fact that Roman Bürki, Freiburg's star-man, will leave the club this summer. The Swiss stopper has been attracting the interests of Germany's elite, though a move further afield is also a possibility.
