Paris Saint-Germain began the pursuit of their sixth Ligue 1 title on Friday at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy against Lille, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the French Champions. Lucas Moura scored the only goal of the match in an effortless display of passing by the capital club.

The match was prefaced by a successful pre-season campaign as PSG not only claimed the International Champions Cup, but also the Trophee des Champions against their most formidable opponents in Ligue 1, Olympique Lyonnais.

Here is a look at the essential talking points from the clash.

Cavani's leadership is still poor compared to Ibrahimovic

Edinson Cavani is set to have his third shot at becoming an integral piece of PSG's attacking system this season. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic slowly fading into his final years of play, Cavani can determine the next phase in the club's growth.

Since his arrival in 2013 he has yet to truly make the same impact upfront as talisman Ibrahimovic, yet with his trials at Napoli still defining his true potential, it is fair to say Cavani has just not had the proper stage to prove himself. Considering how many rumours have linked him elsewhere from the French outfit- yet he remains willing to stay- ensures his commitment to his place within the side.

Last season Cavani managed 18 goals in Ligue 1, one shy of the magnificent Swede who scored 19. The difference here though is that Ibrahimovic spent a great deal of his 2013/2014 campaign injury struck or suspended. Even with Cavani given his central role in the talismans absence, he was still unable to influence the team as heavily as his initial price tag suggested. This season, it is his duty to change that.

Depth revealed in Ibrahimovic's absence

Last season the French outfit proved in and out of Europe how valuable their strength in depth can be. On plenty of occasions Ibrahimovic was absent and did not provide the leadership that has often lifted the team into the champions they are meant to be.

In the void, players such as Lucas Moura and Javier Pastore found immense freedom. With the victory over Lille on Friday, that continued venture towards enriching the squad is opening on a positive note. It was not only Lucas who offered danger infront of goal, but a tireless Cavani, Marco Verratti and Blaise Matiudi as well.

During the club's pre-season, Laurent Blanc also utilized youth players immensely and it paid off. This season the hope will be to feature more of these young men, such as Jean Kevin Augustin who made an impact against Lille, even though he was substituted very late in the match.

Complacency has begun its course

One of Paris Saint-Germain's biggest issues within domestic competition has always been their fall into complacency. Often the club have been criticised for their lack of urgency against Ligue 1 opponents while saving their greatest performances for Europe. And in some ways that is not the fault of a club so well built.

But it does put pressure on Blanc and his men when they begin to slip from title contention because of the hard work of Lyon or Marseille. Against Lille, PSG's Adrien Rabiot saw red for a pitiful challenge after receiving a second yellow and forced the club to play with ten men and yet, despite this circumstance, they managed a victory.

With that in mind, it proves that capability and firepower are apparent, it's just a matter of how and when the squad decide to engage themselves against their Ligue 1 counterparts.
