It could be the first part of a perfect weekend for the Murray family, as Jamie and Bruno Soares claimed the Men's Doubles crown.

They claimed a 2–6, 6–4, 7–5 win over Daniel Nestor and Radek Štěpánek on Saturday, with Andy joining in with the congratulations after the match.

Firm favourties for the title

Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares took to the court in the Australian Open Men's Doubles final as the favourites as well as the top seeds. Murray had made his third back-to-back Grand Slam doubles final, but this one was his first with a new partner in Soares.

After finishing as runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open, Murray and his old partner John Peers had gone their separate ways. The new partnership is only a month old, but before the Australian Open they could boast a semi-final and a trophy on the tour.

Landing in the final of the first Slam of the year, the British-Brazilian team wanted this title. Soares had been in one other Grand Slam final, and finished runner up in 2013, so neither had the feeling of winning a Men's Doubles title.

Nestor and Štěpánek upsetting the odds

The first set looked like Murray may have made a mistake in splitting from Peers, as their opponents in the final - Stepanek and Nestor broke the Brazilian's serve at the first attempt. Murray and Soares could not get the break back no matter how hard they tried, and the set was gone when Soares was broken for the second time as he served up a double fault on set point - 6-2.

Murray and Soares were pushed right to the bitter end.

Murray and Soares make their way back into the match

The second set started better for the seventh seeds; they were getting more chances on the serve but had not been able to take any. The vital game was at 2-2 with the non seeds serving, and Murray and Soares got a break to go ahead for the first time in the match as they took the break for a 3-2 lead. Keeping the pressure on, the seeds stayed just ahead and needed to level up the match. The British-Brazlian team had no problem taking the set, as they served it out 6-4.

Joy for Murray and Soares

Both teams were still playing well, although the level of the non seeds had dropped and more errors were creeping in. Murray and Soares were the first to break serve and again took the lead, all that was needed was for the seeds to hold serve. Everything was going the right way for the Brit-Brazilian pairing and Murray would serve for the match at 5-4. The Brit had been the stronger on serve and had not been broken all match. However, with some inspiring play, Stepanek and Nestor broke back to level the set at 5-5.

It didn't last long though, as Murray and Soares broke straight back meaning that Soares would be serving for the title. As the weaker of the two on serve - the Brazilian was the only one broken in the first set of the pair - the pressure would be on him to hold serve. After a lot of tension as the opponents got break points, Murray and Soares came through and won the title they had been searching for. After only one month together this looks like the beginning of a very good pairing.
