It was rumored and followed all morning but as of now it is official. Former top 5 UFC Light Heavyweight contender Phil Davis has signed with the Bellator mixed martial arts promotion. Clearly one of the top free agents in the world Phil has come to terms with Scott Coker and crew and is ecstatic to fight for the promotion.
“I can’t wait to be fighting in Bellator and wreck shop on everyone,” said Davis. “I am the absolute best and most dominant grappler to ever fight in MMA and I’m excited to get in there and compete at my new home.”
Through Sherdog.com Phil Davis (13-3, 1 NC) is currently ranked the 6th light heavyweight in the world. This could mean we will see him fasted tracked to the title and presents a new challenge for the enlisted fighters on their roster like Liam McGeary, Tito Ortiz, “King Mo” Lawal, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Emanuel Newton and Linton Vassell. Phil was a standout wrestler at Penn State where he was a four time NCAA Division 1 All American. In the UFC he was a nemesis to light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. A few setbacks never allowed the fight to happen but it will be interesting to see if Bones makes any comments on the signing.
Davis’ last fight was a lost to Ryan Bader back in January so we should see him appear under the Bellator banner soon. He fights out of alliance camp which also the home of Bellator fighters Michael Chandler and Joey Beltran. Be on the look out for a booking soon!
