Tonight, from The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Invicta FC 13: Cyborg - Van Duin is set with seven knockout bouts including three title matches. All fighters weighed yesterday from the Brera Ballroom at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas each with no difficulties making weight. The main event is a matchup for the featherweight title between current champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino (13-1) and Aussie fighter Faith Van Duin (5-1). In the co-main event, Tonya Evinger (15-6) and Irene Aldana (5-1) battle it out for the vacant bantamweight title while Herica Tiburcio (9-2) defends her atomweight title for the third time against Ayaka Hamasaki (11-1).
The fight the general public wants to see is of course Cyborg verse the current UFC bantamweight champion. Though she does have some unfinished business left to settle in Invicta and that starts with defending her 145 title once again. Her opponent is Van Duin, a slick grappler who has a decent chin and never ending motor. The Immortal finished the hard hitting Amanda Bell in her last fight and looks to find similar success here. The main question is will she be able to take down Cyborg and work her game or like many others feel the relentless assault of the Invicta FC featherweight champion.
Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger has always been looked at as one of the best fighters in the world. She will have her chance to prove so as the talented vet takes on the up and coming Mexican born Aldana. Irene posses unique finishing power that is very reminiscent of another fighter in the bantamweight class in Miriam Nakamoto. Don’t sleep on Evinger, however, as she too has the ability to end a fight quick. This may possibly be fight of the night on this short but sweet IFC 13 card.
After shocking the MMA landscape with a late submission over now UFC strawweight Michelle Waterson, Tiburcio is a must see TV. She will defend her atomweight title for the first time against one of the top fighters in the world out of Japan in Hamasaki. Ayaka is a skillful grappler that will have to contend with the boxing of Tiburcio. This fight will be very interesting when it gets to the mat as both fighters have the ability to finish from the ground.
The Invicta FC 13 card not only has title bouts but includes some tremendous debuts. Pannie Kianzad, Catherine Costigan and Marina Shafir have all made names for themselves in the MMA globe. They each fight equally talented athletes who are all trying to make their marks in Invicta FC’s talented weight classes. Full weigh in results and pictures are listed below.
