Agnieszka Radwanska is a former champion at the Aegon International in Eastbourne way back in 2008 and she returned to the final last year, losing to Belinda Bencic.

Radwanska's opponent Dominika Cibulkova is on her way back to the top 20 of the WTA rankings as last year she had surgery on her Achilles which ruled her out of the clay court season and forced her to be unseeded for much of the year.

The Pole will be happy to be back on her favourite surface on the grass as her game doesn't work well on clay.

The top seed had a good clay court season as she reached the fourth round of the French Open but she would have felt hard done by, that it rained and the conditions were heavy which allowed Tsvetana Pironkova to beat the former Wimbledon finalist.

Cibulkova's title run at the indoor event at the Katowice Open in Radwanska's home country of Poland helped elevate the Slovak's ranking firmly back inside the top 30.

How they got here

Cibulkova received a bye in the first round of the Aegon International as she is seeded 12th and she hasn't dropped a set en route to the quarterfinals.

In her first match in the second round, Cibulkova defeated Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-3 followed by third round win over Kateryna Bondarenko with a 7-6, 6-3 victory and the Slovak was 5-2 down in the first set.

Radwanska like Cibulkova received a first round bye as the top seed, and her first opponent Mirjana Lucic-Baroni had to retire in the second set due to illness, followed by a win over fellow former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard in the third round.

Their history

Radwanska and Cibulkova are no strangers to each other as this encounter will be their 12th meeting on the WTA tour. Radwanska has the upper hand in this rivalry, as she leads 7-4.

This quarterfinal meeting at the Aegon International between the pair will be their first match against each other on grass.

The duo is tied 1-1 on clay and Radwanska leads 6-3 on hard.

The Pole's significant victories over Cibulkova were a straight set victory in the third round of the US Open back in 2008, followed by a straight sets win in the final at the Apia International Sydney in 2013 and a three-set thriller earlier this year in the second round at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Cibulkova has gained some big wins over Radwanska in her own right and they are all significant ones as the Slovak won her first match against the Pole in their fifth meeting in the final at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford in three sets.

The biggest win of Cibulkova's career was in the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2014, which Cibulkova thrashed Radwanska 6-1, 6-2 to reach her maiden Grand Slam final.

The win at the Australian Open was followed by a quarterfinal win in three sets at the Miami Open for Cibulkova also in 2014 and Cibulkova's most recent victory over Radwanska was last month at the Mutua Madrid Open in three sets.

Who wins

Radwanska is the overwhelming favourite as this match is on the Pole's favourite surface, where she has had a tremendous amount of success.

Cibulkova has been impressive since her return from injury and she loves playing the big names as she will back herself to cause an upset.

A former Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2011, Cibulkova knows her way around a grass court and in her game she possesses an explosive forehand and even though she is diminutive, she can stay in rallies for a long time.

Radwanska is a tremendous defender and she is able to soak up plenty of pressure and she has soft hands on this surface where she use drop shots and lobs to perfection.

The Pole will be hoping to reach the final at Wimbledon again as Radwanska is consistent at SW19 as she reached the semifinals in 2013 and 2015.

Cibulkova will be hoping for a good result here in Eastbourne, which could give her confidence to reach the latter stages of Grand Slam tournaments once again.

This exciting quarterfinal match has the potential to be the match of the day and it will be the second match scheduled on Centre Court, not before 1pm local time.

The winner of this match will play Kristina Mladenovic or Monica Puig in the semifinals.

Prediction: Cibulkova in three sets.
