Chelsea have today announced that they have completed the signing of 18 year old defender, Cristian Cuevas, from Chilean club O'Higgins.

Cuevas came through the youth academy of O'Higgins and soon impressed and broke into the first team. The left back had a successful trail period with the Stamford Bridge club, before the club agreed to sign the youngster for a reported fee of £1.7 million.

He was a part of the Chile national team which took part in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup this summer. He played his part in 4 of the 5 matches before losing to Ghana in the quarterfinals. His contract with Chelsea will run until 2018.

Chelsea are also looking to bolster their attack ahead of the 2013/14 English Premier League, as they have cited Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, as their prime target this summer. The club are reportedly willing to offer £30 million for the striker.

Mourinho has stated: "We want the player [Rooney] and we have made the bid; now we have nothing more to say. Now it's up to Manchester United... Rooney or bust."
