According to The TimesAston Villa defender Nathan Baker is expected to leave the club this transfer window in order to join Championship side Burnley.

The fee being reported for the defender is around the £2 million mark.

Baker is a product of the Villa youth academy, having joined the club when he was just 13 years old. He went on to make his Villa debut in January 2011 before becoming a regular member of the first-team squad in the years since.

However, last season the 24-year-old only made 11 appearances in a Villa shirt due to an injury-hit campaign.

If Baker were to join Burnley he would most likely be an exact replacement for Jason Shackell, who joined promotion rivals and his former side Derby County last week in a £3 million deal.

Sean Dyche will be hoping that Baker can help his team bounce back straight to the Premier League following their relegation to the Championship last season.

Burnley yesterday completed the signing of striker Chris Long from Everton on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Villa lost Dutch international Ron Vlaar this summer, however they did sign former Manchester City defender Micah Richards as a replacement centre-back.

This is just one of seven signings that Villa boss Tim Sherwood has made this summer and it would seem that he is willing to let the 24-year-old leave the Birmingham club.

Time for change

Villa confirmed two further signings just this week, the most recent being Jose Angel Crespo, who was announced yesterday, with £12million man Jordan Ayew also having been confirmed earlier in the week.

Last season Villa made it to the final of the FA Cup where they were beaten comprehensively 4-0 by the 2013 Champions Arsenal.

They also managed to avoided relegation from the Premier League, however many fans will be hoping that they can push up the table this season after a number of seasons struggling at the bottom.
