Derby County look to continue their summer spending by adding Jacob Butterfield and Alex Pritchard to their squad.

Rams boss Paul Clement wants to bolster his midfield after his promotion favourites have made a stuttering start to their Championship campaign, taking four points from their opening four games and being knocked out of the Capital One Cup in the first round.

Third time lucky with Butterfield?

Former Real Madrid assistant manager Clement is hoping that a third bid for Butterfield will seal the deal, after having two bids rejected by Huddersfield Town last week. That prompted Terriers chairman Dean Hoyle to state that the former Middlesborough and Barnsley man is not for sale.

It's been a frustrating couple of weeks for Derby in the transfer market after a free-spending summer. They also saw a bid to lure Michail Antonio from rivals Nottingham Forest turned down, but could renew their interest in the winger if they fail to sign other targets.

Pritchard could return to Championship

After losing key player Will Hughes to a long-term injury, Clement is desperate to replace his creative midfield gem, and a loan move for Tottenham's Pritchard has moved a step closer.

Pritchard, who impressed last season on loan at Brentford, is said to be open for a return to the Championship, having not featured in any of Spurs' match-day squads so far this season.

The youngster was named Brentford's Players' Player of the Year last term and was also named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year after a stunning season with the Bees which saw him tipped by some to be named the division's Player of the Year outright.

Derby will hope that these deals can be done in time for their next league fixture, a home game against Leeds United on Saturday.
