Manchester City forward Samir Nasri is set to seal a loan move to Spanish club Sevilla after falling out of favour under new boss Pep Guardiola.

Nasri, who joined City from Arsenal in 2011, will make the move to Spain on transfer deadline day after the blues agreed to let him move on loan rather than depart on a permanent deal.

The 29-year-old had been training alone at City after returning from the summer break overweight and therefore found himself not in contention for Guardiola’s squad.

Nasri fails to make early impression under Guardiola

But despite not impressing his new boss early on he did make his first appearance of the season at the weekend in City’s 3-1 win over West Ham.

This led some to believe that he had redeemed himself and would remain at the club, but it seems the Frenchman will now look to resurrect his form in Spain this season.

Nasri will join current Europa League champions Sevilla to work under Jorge Sampaoli as the La Liga side bid for yet another successful season in Europe.

It is understood that he flew to Spain on Tuesday night ahead of a medical on deadline day which should be completed before the window shuts at 11:00pm.

Turbulent time for Nasri

Highly rated Nasri was one of Arsenal’s key men meaning it was a real coup for the blues to lure him to the club back in August 2011.

He initially hit the ground running at the Etihad stadium and helped steer the club to their first ever Premier League trophy in 2012 under Roberto Mancini.

But despite City continuing to progress, Nasri struggled with various injuries in recent seasons and often struggled for consistent form under Manuel Pellegrini.

Nasri made just 12 appearances for the club last season scoring two goals in what was a frustrating season for the forward.

The Frenchman signed a new five-year-deal in July 2014 which was supposed to keep him at the club until 2019, but if he settles in Spain then his future may well lie away from City in the long term.
