Manchester United secured a crucial 1-0 win over Manchester City to progress to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
Jose Mourinho will be relieved to return to winning ways and extended City's winless run to a sixth match.

Goalkeeper - David de Gea - 6: In all honesty, the Spanish stalwart had nothing to do all game long. City's toothless attack branded de Gea an interested spectator.
Right-Back - Antonio Valencia - 7: The Ecuadorian was again a very fruitful attacking outlet, as he exploited the weaknesses of an ageing Gael Clichy. He dealt with the attacking threat that came his way with ease and was quite often in a good positon to deliver balls into the box and set up attacks. Valencia has become one of United's most consistent performers.
Centre-Back - Marcos Rojo - 8: Rojo had huge responsibility as he and Blind stepped into the impressive shoes of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling. The Argentinian read the game very well, seeing danger and stopping it very impressively. One of his best United performances, Rojo's distribution of the ball was also decent, as he had the physical edge of City forwards Kelechi Iheanacho and Leroy Sane. The United goal was set up by an extremely dominant defensive header from Rojo, his particular highlight from this derby day success.
Centre-Back - Daley Blind - 6: Blind recovered from his Chelsea horror show with a solid defensive showing. In truth, the City attack caused him few problems as he was a bystander for the majority of the game. His distribution could have been better, often opting to pass back to de Gea rather than seeking out a more forward-thinking pass.
Left-Back - Luke Shaw - 6: The Englishman returned the side and had a mixed performance at Old Trafford. He really struggled to contain Jesus Navas who consistently went past him to create chances. This changed in the second half, however, as Shaw turned the tables on the Spaniard. Shaw dominated the winger, not letting him get past him, and aided to change the momentum completely in United's favour.
Midfield impresses
Centre-Midfielder - Michael Carrick - 8: The Englishman was yet again one of United's standout performers. He controlled the game with such elegance that he was often anonymous to the play. His defensive mindset allowed Herrera and Pogba to surge forward without worry for defensive responsibilities. As usual, Carrick was always looking forward to pass the ball, a quality that should see him start far more often under Jose Mourinho.
Centre-Midfielder - Ander Herrera - 8: Herrera put in yet another quality performance in a big game. The Spaniard's ability to break up the play is unrivalled in the United squad, often providing respite from good periods of City possession. He pressed the City defence and midfield all game long, not giving them a moment to breathe. He showed another great quality to his game, holding off Fernando which allowed Mata to slot in the deciding goal.
Attack shines
Right-Midfielder - Juan Mata - 7: The Spaniard's goal decided the game in United's favour. After a sloppy first half where he struggled to create, Mata came into his own in the second period. He found gaps in the City defence and seized upon the huge indiscipline of Nicolas Otamendi in the second half. He's United's lucky charm this term, having collected 13 points from a possible 15 in the League when he starts.
Centre-Attacking-Midfielder - Paul Pogba - 7: Similarly to Ibrahimovic, Pogba had an abject first half, where nothing he tried came off. He focussed too on attempting tricks and flicks far too much and couldn't really provide anyhing going forward. In the second half, the Frenchman became the driving force to United's attacking work. He should've converted from close range after being played through by Ibrahimovic, but City keeper Willy Caballero tipped it onto the post. He dominated Fernando who couldn't live with his power in the second period.
Left-Midfielder - Marcus Rashford - 7: Rashford provided United's best attacking threat in the first half. The young right-back Maffeo was very impressive but Rashford still managed to get in behind and cause him problems with his electric pace. His end product was good, not getting many chances at goal himself, Rashford was providing very decent deliveries into the box, not getting the reward of an assist that the balls merited.
Striker - Zlatan Ibrahimovic - 6: It was very much a game of two halves for the big Swedish striker. The first half was one of his worst throughout his illustrious career. He was sloppy in possession and couldn't put himself in a position to create or finish a chance in what was a very cagey opening 45 minutes. He completely transformed his performance in the second half, causing Nicolas Otamendi all sorts of problems with some remarkable pressing. His hold up play was exemplary and spread the play well to set up attacks. He showed this pressing as well as some superb strength and an assist for the United goal.
The Substitutes
Morgan Schneiderlin - 7: The Frenchman has been well down the pecking order since Mourinho's arrival, but he will have only done his chances of featuring more frequently the power of good after this display. Replacing goalscorer Mata to sure up the midfield and see the game out, Schneiderlin broke up the play with his great tackling ability, displaying the talent that attracted United to him in the first place.
