Chelsea were back in action on Sunday afternoon for the first time in over 100 days. Once the Coronavirus pandemic has all blown away and normality resumes, the question of ‘who was the first player to score for Chelsea post the pandemic?’ will surely be used in many trivia’s and quizzes to come.

With the answer to the question being Christian Pulisic, the winger was for sure Chelsea’s captain America as Frank Lampard’s side had to blow away many cobwebs to gain all three points in the west Midlands.

Pulisic was introduced to proceedings just shy of the hour mark, his impact was imminent after he levelled things up just five minutes after being introduced in the 55th minute.

Happy to be the man to help

After the full-time whistle, his manager spoke highly of his winger, even telling “he could’ve started” on the day. The manager praised the number 22 after admitting that Pulisic is a big player for Chelsea in the short term and for the future.

Once the winger spoke to the media, he was happy with his performance and the overall contribution to get maximum points.

“I’m really glad that I could come in and help the team in any way that I could, luckily I was able to get a goal and also help us get a great result for the team.

“The manager told me to go on and help us win the game. There was nothing special or anything, I just wanted to try and use my talents and see what I could do. I'm happy I was able to do that.”

After the Pulisic goal sent Chelsea on their way to all three points, the wide player admitted: “I don’t think I actually hit it perfectly with my left. Luckily, I got enough on it to steer it on target and I was happy to see the ball go in.”

'Playing without fans is difficult'

With the return of the Premier League meaning empty stadiums with no fans in attendance, Pulisic commented on the change of environment.

“Obviously, it is quite different, playing without fans in pretty difficult circumstances but the team brought a really good energy. I am simply happy that we were able to come here and get a good result.

"I have been out for a while and it felt nice to be back out on the pitch following my injury.

"All the guys have been off for a while now, because of the lockdown, but we’ve been trying to stay as fit as we possibly can do and now we just have to get back into rhythm of things, as the games come.”

'Werner's arrival is incredible'

After the Timo Werner deal was completed a few weeks ago now, Pulisic offered his thoughts on the transfer after both players have played in the German Bundesliga

“We already have a really good team, with really talented players and to add guys like Werner is incredible.

"We’re focused on this season for now, but at the same time we are excited for what’s to come.”
