Chelsea have been doing some serious business in the summer transfer window ahead of the new season.

Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell have all made the move to West London, and it looks as though the Blues aren’t quite finished yet.

According to talkSPORT, the Blues have agreed to sign Kai Havertz for around £89m from Bayer Leverkusen.

He will certainly be an exciting addition to the Chelsea squad, but it does raise questions into who will start in Chelsea’s midfield come the start of the Premier League season.

VAVEL Chelsea has a look into the possible answer to Frank Lampard’s dilemma.

  • World-class starters

There is no doubt that Chelsea’s midfield is full of depth.

N’Golo Kante will be going into his fifth season as a Chelsea player and he is still argued to be the best holding midfielder in the world.

Alongside him you can find Mateo Kovacic, who was named as Chelsea’s Player of the Season and he is able to produce fantastic dribbling in the centre of the pitch.

Jorginho is also a key player in the heart of the team, with his world-class distribution creating many goal scoring opportunities.

These three players alone would give the Blues a quality midfield structure in any game, but Chelsea boast more talent in their position.

  • Stacked with quality

Blues fans saw the rise of Mason Mount last season as he was one of the most impressive players in the team, with eight goals and six assists in all competitions at just 21 years old.

Chelsea also have the services of Ruben Loftus-Cheek who, despite injuries hindering his progress as a player, has always shown his quality and high energy on the pitch when selected.

Another youngster who burst onto the scene in blue was Billy Gilmour, who recently won the club’s Academy Player of the Season award due to his highly impressive performances for the first team.

Despite the club having more names in the midfield on their books, some players may find themselves leaving Chelsea soon.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Tiemoue Bakayoko could be on his way back to AC Milan after he impressed during a loan spell there.

Ross Barkley may also find himself leaving the club, but then again could remain in order to retain squad depth.

  • Problem solved?

As the Chelsea boss, Lampard has some difficult yet welcomed decisions to make.

The large number of quality midfielders at his disposal will please him, but it us up to him to ensure that whoever he does select to start produces the goods.

With the imminent arrival of Havertz, Chelsea’s starters in the heart of the pitch could be as follows.

Lampard has been known to enjoy a three-man selection in the middle, with either two holding defenders and an attacking player in a 4-2-1-3 line-up, or just a flat line midfield in a 4-3-3 formation.

Havertz would most likely accommodate the attacking midfield role in the 4-2-1-3 selection as the majority of his world-class performances have come from that position.

It would then be down to Lampard to decide who should make up the other two spots, with him most likely choosing either Kante, Kovacic or Jorginho.

Havertz is also able to play as a right winger and a centre-forward, so this could allow Mount to play as the team’s attacking midfielder if need be.

Due to the season starting a month later than normal, fixture congestion could potentially be a big problem for many teams this season.

This is why rotation is important, and Chelsea could have an advantage over other teams due to their depth in the midfield position.

We would most likely see the likes of Loftus-Cheek and Gilmour start in cup games in order to rest the club’s key players.

It won’t be easy for Lampard to accommodate everyone throughout the season, but it once again proves that this current Chelsea team is a very exciting prospect for next season.

When they do get their chances, Chelsea’s midfielders will have to perform at their very best or they could find themselves being replaced with other options.
