Chelsea’s most recent singing Kai Havertz is believed to be one of the most promising young players in world football.

Last season at Bayer Leverkusen, he scored 18 goals and assisted nine times in all competitions, as well as being part of the Europa League 2019/20 Squad of the Season.

At just 21 years of age, he certainly has many years of football ahead of him.

VAVEL Chelsea takes a look at his future and how he compares to other young prospects.

  • Trust in the youth

When Havertz completed his move to the Blues, manager Frank Lampard had some very encouraging words to say about him.

In an interview with the Chelsea website, he said: “Kai is a really exciting signing for myself and for the club first and foremost.

“He is a player I have been aware of for a long time and as a fellow attacking midfield player, I have paid particular attention to those type of players for some time.”

Havertz made 45 appearances for Leverkusen last season proving that despite his age, he is always a reliable player for his team.

This is one game more than Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho with 44 appearances, and six more than Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt, who are also exciting talents.

  • Versatility is key

One aspect of his game that gives Havertz a lot of potential is his versatility.

Not only can he play as an attacking midfielder, but he is also capable of playing on the right wing and even as a centre-forward.

This is similar to his new Chelsea teammate Mason Mount, who is also able to play in a variety of positions, which will therefore give the Blues an advantage when it comes to squad depth.

It could also give Havertz the edge over other players such as Dortmund’s Erling Haaland who, despite having a fantastic goal scoring record as a 20-year-old, is only able to play as a centre-forward; the versatility that Havertz possesses allows him to be more useful in other areas of the pitch as opposed to just one fixed position.

There are many other young and exciting talents in the world of football, but Havertz is showing signs of being a very special player for many years to come.

His impressive goal scoring and assisting records prompted the Blues to splash the cash on his transfer.

For Chelsea fans, it will be very exciting and interesting to see how he adapts at the club.

It may be difficult at first, but there is no doubt that his attitude and footballing talents will guide him to the very top.
