A critical game in EFL League One takes place as Crewe Alexandra hosts Morecambe at the Mornflake Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Shrimps have lost consecutive games to AFC Wimbledon and Doncaster Rovers to sit 18th in the league table, two points above their hosts.

Crewe defeated Burton Albion 2-0 to Saturday to pick up their first victory of the season, but still sit fourth from bottom through their opening eight games.

Team news

Crewe are still without the services of midfielder Tom Lowery, who is involved in a long-running contract dispute with the club. Chris Long is still struggling with a knee injury and is doubtful.

Madger Gomes made his club debut after a paperwork issue was resolved while Scott Robertson, on loan from Scottish giants Celtic, has established himself in the midfield.

Forward Courtney Duffus is set to miss six weeks with a thigh injury for Morecambe while fellow strikers Shayon Harrison (toe), Jonah Ayunga (knee) and Jonathan Obika (hamstring) also still sidelined.

New boy Scott Wootton impressed in the Shrimps' defence and looks likely to start alongside Anthony O'Connor while Josh McPake could be introduced if Cole Stockton requires a rest.

Predicted lineups

Crewe Alexandra: Jääskeläinen; Ramsey, Thomas, Daniels, Adebisi; Ainley, Robertson, Murphy; Kashket, Mandron, Bennett.

Morecambe: Andrésson; Leigh, Gibson, O'Connor, Cooney; Wildig, Diagouraga, McLaughlin; Gnaouha, Stockton, Delaney.

Ones to watch

Mikael Mandron

For a Crewe side that is the lowest-scoring team in League One, the Frenchman is their main threat and he will be counted on to have another strong game against Morecambe.

Cole Stockton

The Morecambe forward has scored six of the Shrimps' nine goals this season. Showing his durability by having played every minute of the season so far, he looks poised to finish with double-digit goals for a second successive season.

Previous meetings

Crewe are unbeaten in their last eight matchups against Morecambe, having not lost to the Shrimps since 2012. The hosts have won eight of the 14 all-time meetings with Morecambe winning just three to go with three draws.

February of 2020 was their last encounter with Perry Ng putting Crewe in front two minutes into the second half and it looked as though they would be heading for the top of the EFL League Two table until Aaron Wildig secured a point for the visitors in the 68th minute.
