Blackpool edged Queens Park Rangers 1-0 at Loftus Road in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Josh Bolwer's curling strike was the only difference between the two sides in a tightly contested game of end to end football.

This result saw Blackpool pick up their second win of the season, moving up to seventh place in the Championship, whereas Michael Beale's QPR side dropped down to 15th.

  • Story of the match

QPR had the first big chance of the game in the second minute, with Tyler Roberts' strike from just outside the box being parried away well by Blackpool goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw to keep the score level.

Blackpool's Gerry Jates came close just past the 10 minute mark, with the striker getting a deft touch on a low cross from the right wing, which just grazed the far post of Seny Dieng's goal.

Another good chance fell to the hosts in the 23rd minute. New signing Ethan Laird linked up well with striker Lyndon Dykes, but his shot from inside the box was straight at Grimshaw.

The Scotsman squandered another brilliant chance with 10 minutes left in the first half. Blackpool played themselves into trouble losing possession on the edge of their penalty area to Stefan Johansen, who was able to find Dykes unmarked in the middle of the penalty area, but with an option to square it back to the Norwegian, the striker went for goal himself but couldn't beat Grimshaw who was quick off his line.

It was Michael Appleton's side who broke the deadlock on the cusp of half-time through former QPR man Bowler. His first effort from the edge of the box was initially blocked, but the ball came back to him and he was able to find the top left corner with no hesitation.

The Tangerines nearly doubled their lead just past the hour mark, with Bowler seeing his curling effort well saved by Dieng, before the follow up shot was sliced high and wide.

Queens Park Rangers came close to an equaliser as the game wore on with 15 minutes to go. Leeds loanee Roberts made a perfectly weighted pass to Laird who put in a dangerous low cross, but it was an Orange shirt who got to the ball first.

Grimshaw was forced into another good save as QPR piled on the pressure, with substitute Sinclair Armstrong making a good run down the left and forcing a good save out of the keeper from a tight angle.

Armstrong could have levelled the score in the dying embers of added time, with Albert Adomah putting a great cross into the box, but the youngster couldn't keep his header down.
