The Premier League's sixth round ended with a 3-1 thriller as both teams went head-to-head in a energetic battle for all the points.

Mikel Arteta and Erik ten Hag were full of praise of the game and their players afterwards.

Manchester United were victorious and extended their winning streak to four games while Arsenal travel back to London with their first loss of the season on their minds.

The home team started brightly and pushed the Gunners back, but ten minutes in Arsenal won the ball back and set in motion a counter-attack.

Martin Ødegaard found Gabriel Martinelli through on goal and the Brazilian scored with a composed finish past David de Gea. The goal, however, was disallowed by VAR and referee Paul Tierney for a foul on Christian Eriksen.

A challenge even Roy Keane called "soft" at halftime.

"Really difficult to understand"

"The referee said it was a really soft decision – we just ask for consistency," Arteta said after the game.

"One is soft and last week they made a foul on Aaron [Ramsdale] but it is soft, it is not a foul. There is a foul on Bukayo [Saka], it is soft but not a penalty. Today it is a foul. The threshold in the first actions, you could see there is no yellow card because they want to keep a threshold in a big game. Really difficult to understand."

Despite the disallowed goal and a United lead through debutant Antony ten minutes from halftime, Arteta was pleased with his team's overall performance.

Dominant showing

"I am really disappointed to lose the game especially with the way it went over the 95 minutes," he said.

"We had some big periods where we were totally dominant and in total control. We created chance after chance but did not close the game. In any moment, when they have open spaces, they are going to hurt you. They had three big chances and scored three goals, we have numerous chances and we did not score enough."

The manager said he felt "vindicated" by the positive performances from his players despite the result, but there are lessons to learn.

"We have to learn that you need to have so much discipline in these games, any detail they are going to materialise because they have world class players all over the pitch."

"Antony will be a threat in the Premier League"

Man United manager ten Hag was impressed with his new £85.5m signing, who he had selected to start his first game in front of a packed Old Trafford.

"We can make speed and creativity together, Antony will be a threat in the Premier League, he acclaimed.

"We were missing a player on the right wing, [Jadon] Sancho and [Marcus] Rashford can play there but they prefer the left so now we have the missing link who can play well on the right.

"He did well but I think he can do better, he had a great goal but all the goals were team goals."

"First 10 minutes was best we have played"

Man United controlled the start of the game, before the disallowed Arsenal goal, but the home side lost its grasp and the visitors from London gained more and more momentum.

Arsenal equalised with a Bukayo Saka goal, but not long after Rashford made it 2-1 and then 3-1 to win a hard-fought game.

"I thought the first 10 minutes was the best we have played so far this season," ten Hag said.

"But after the cancelled goal it was not as good. But we had a good team today, good team spirit, they fought, they recovered, Arsenal created chances but we scored great goals, we were great on the break."

Ten Hag's tenure at Old Trafford is only a few games along. The Dutchman knows they have to keep improving.

"Arsenal played well but we defended well. I never had the feeling that they'd break us," he said.

"They had a lot of movement and creativity but we defended as a team with all eleven. We can have better pressing and organisation, we can control the game more, we can be better in possession with better composure on the ball then we will dictate the game even more. We haven't been together long so we'll work on it."
