Reading were made to rue their chances in the first half and Norwich City made to rue theirs in the second as the two sides fought out a 1-1 draw

The Royals were the better side in the first half, having a few brilliant chances, the closest coming from Andy Carroll, who had his header well saved by Tim Krul.

The Canaries however started the better in the second, and capitalised when Grant Hanley gave his side the lead.

Reading then levelled things up soon afterwards through Jeff Hendrick, who had his half volley finish in the bottom right hand corner.

The result means the two sides stay where they are, with Norwich second in the Championship, whilst Reading are in third.

Story of the match

Paul Ince made two changes for this one, one being enforced through Andy Yiadom being dropped through an injury picked up on the weekend, whilst Lucas Joao was dropped to the bench. In their places came in loanee Tyrese Fornah and Mamadou Loum. Norwich meanwhile only made the one change, with 19-year-old Liam Gibbs coming in for Onel Hernandez

The game started off very slowly, with not many chances being created by either side. Norwich were keeping a lot of the ball, with Reading in a very compact shape, not allowing the Canaries much room to work in.

Despite their possession it was Reading who had the first real chance of the game, when Junior Hoilett put a cross in from the right hand side to the back post for Carroll, only for his header to be well saved by Krul in the Norwich net.

Reading then had another great chance, with Hendrick nearly scoring a brilliant half-volley after he chested it down following a free-kick, however his strike was a whisker wide. Norwich skipper Hanley had a header blaze over a few minutes later from a free-kick, as he failed to hit it cleanly.

Hoilett had a chance of his own, when the ball fell to him in the centre of the area from a Nesta Guinness-Walker cross, however it was deflect wide for a corner, resulting in a Carroll header straight at the keeper.

The Royals were really starting to build momentum, and came close yet again to gaining the lead, this time when another Hoilett cross almost reached an onrushing Tom Ince, however the 30-year-old just missed there ball on it's way through.

Norwich start to show their quality

The woodwork was then struck by the away side, when a low cross from the right handle was bundled up into the air by Tom McIntyre - only for it to bounce right on top of the bar.

The away side started the better in the second half, when Marcelino Nunez was in acres of space but clipped the ball wide following a low Josh Sargent cross.

Luckily for the Canaries they took a lead fairly soon after through Hanley, who struck in from close range after the ball was flicked down by Sargent from a corner.

Reading nearly came close levelling just a minute after through Hendrick, who put a low cross in again that was nearly turned into his own net from Andrew Omobamidele, who cleared it just wide of his own post.

It didn't take much longer for the home side to get their leveller through Hendrick, when Hoilett attempted cross deflected to the Irishman, who chested it down before nestling his half volley into the bottom right corner.

With just under twenty minutes ago, both sides made a variety of changes, with both Ince and Dean Smith seeing this as a game their sides could take all three points.

However, it was not meant to be as both sides earned a point, as Reading remain third and Norwich remain second.

Player of the match

Junior Hoilett

The Canadian international played brilliantly, playing out of position at both left and right wing back and doing exceptionally. His crossing caused real problems for the away side, combining with Carroll on a number of occasions. His defending was also very good, winning 100% off his tackles
