FC Ingolstadt's Danny da Costa, 21, has suffered a fractured tibia (broken shin) the club confirmed via Twitter following his collision with Fortuna Dusseldorf's Lukas Schmitz.

The right back was stretchered off the pitch and then rushed to the local hospital to be operated on, while Schmitz carried on after receiving treatment. The former Werder Bremen full-back was taken off fifteen minutes later, replaced by Ben Halloran, still suffering from the injury he sustained in the collision.

Da Costa faces up to six months on the sidelines while his shin recovers, but the best case scenario would see him return in just fourth months time. It could be a season ending injury for the Germany under 21 international, putting his place at this summer's European Championship in severe doubt.

Each man's replacement held their own as first placed FC Ingolstadt and second placed Fortuna Düsseldorf played out a 0-0 draw.
