Hertha BSC play their first home match of the season, at the Olympiastadion, and play hosts to Werder Bremen in the first match of the second week.

Last season, Werder Bremen had the upper hand in this fixture. In the first leg in Berlin, Schieber had finished off his brace before the 50th minute and it looked like things were going swimmingly. Then in a span of two minutes, the away side equalized and the points were spoiled. At Bremen, the green-whites dominated the occassion, winning 2-0 in one of the tough stretches for BSC.

Form

Werder Bremen did not have the best starts to the season. They hosted Schalke to start the season and got destroyed, with Andre Breitenreiter now at the helm.  Despite their Pokal result against Wurzberger Kickers, but needed extra time do advance to the next round. It is not going to get any tougher this time around as their opposition have yet to lose despite not playing their best football.

As mentioned earlier, Hertha are off to a fantastic start -- much better this time last season. Salomon Kalou scored from the spot aganst Augsburg shortly after halftime securing the three points for his side. against Augsburg shortly after the halftime interval. If they can continue to get good results while improving their both football in terms of tactics and general play, expect Hertha to finish in a decent spot this time around.

Key players

Per usualy, look for the goals to come through Salomon Kalou. The Ivorian has netted in both competitive matches thus far and looks like he is the only one who has a sense of where the goal is at the moment. He needs to be active in the final third today, pestering the opposition's back four, probing for that extra inch of space. If Kalou is able to do that, Hertha should have no problem beating a Werder Bremen side who are struggling at the moment.

For Werder Bremen, American-born Aron Jóhannsson could not have joined at a better time. They desperately need someone who is able to score match in and match out. Jóhannsson is a proven goal scorer in the Dutch league as well as the international level with the US Men's National Team. HIs experience playing against some of the best sides in the world will give Bremen a huge boost when he finally steps on the pitch.
