Despite current hardships in their domestic campaign, Gamba Osaka got the better off of Singapore’s best local side in the group stage last Friday. The game ended with a scoreline of 2-0, with goals scored by Patric and Leandro Pereira.

The Stags played some exciting football despite the loss, but was unable to convert their attacking attempts, with only three shots on target. They saw themselves leaving the stadium with nothing to take but only the defeat- with experience into the bargain.

We are disappointed with the result but take away some positives as the boys played really well in many moments of the match”, as Gavin Lee reflects during his post-match interview. The Stags were running the show with 51% of the possession. However, luck was not on their side with two defensive errors which gave Patric and Pereira the freeway to score an easy header each.

Gavin will look to regroup his team in preparation for their upcoming fixture with the Thai FA cup winners, who have also tasted defeat in their previous game against Jeonbuk FC, currently 2nd in the K league 1.

Jeonbuk took control of the game with 52% possession and five shots on target against Chiangrai, who only managed to assay two shots on target, with seven shots wide. The attacking attempts of Chiangrai finally paid off with some luck on their side in the 68th minute with a defensive error by Jeonbuk’s defender, who cleared the ball into the path of Punya which gave him an easy opportunity to net that ball pass the goalkeeper. Both Tampines and Chiangrai sit in group H, with zero points accumulated after playing a game each.
