Dream team VI Coach Samson Siasia, has urged Nigerians not to press the panic button over his team’s readiness for the football event of the forthcoming Rio Olympic Games in Brazil this summer.

Siasia, 48, who led his U-23 side to victory in the 2nd edition of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, stressed that the absence of some notable names like Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City and Alex Iwobi of Arsenal would not affect the fortunes of the team in Brazil.

Siasia maintains that his target is to raise a solid team with emphasis on teamwork and not individual talents. He said the current players on tour of the United States were doing well in training so far and assured that they would give a good account of themselves to make Nigerians proud at the games.

“We don’t need to panic. There are quality players in camp and we are working hard to raise a very good team and so we are not bothered about individual talents. Some of the players like Iheanacho and Iwobi won’t be with us because of club commitments but we have good replacements”. Siasia told Telegraph.

The Welfare of the team has been a major concern to all but Siasia who knows how things work in the national team set up says it was important to concentrate on the task ahead rather than dwell on problems. The recent test matches have not been encouraging as well but the former Nantes of France player says his team should not be judged just yet.

“We have decided to be focused in our quest to do very well in Brazil. We are working hard to get better and will be ready for the competition proper. Nigerians should not judge us with the friendly games,” the coach added.

Nigeria will compete for honours against Sweden, Japan and Colombia .
