The first round of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell was completed as well as the second round getting underway. Among the seeded winners were fifth Roberto Bautista Agut, seventh seed Denis Shapovalov and eighth seed David Goffin. Twelfth seed Karen Khachanov was the only seed to lose.

Bautista Agut was in fine form as he defeated compatriot Pablo Andujar 6-4, 6-0. The world number ten broke Andujar five times while Shapovalov registered a 6-3, 7-5 over Jeremy Chardy.

Goffin advanced after beating Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-2, 6-4 as the Belgian fired five aces against the Frenchman while 11th seed Jannik Sinner hit 21 winners in a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Egor Gerasimov.

On the prospects of playing Bautista Agut in the third round, Sinner said "he's an unbelievable player. He's very consistent. He lost in Dubai against me, he lost in Miami against me, now we play once more here, so it's quite a small period of time.

"We're playing now our third match already, so it's going to be a very tough match. He is very, very solid. I never played against him on clay. I'm trying to be ready in the best possible way."
