Love him or hate him, you have to respect what John Cena has done for the WWE. He’s always stepped into roles when needed. He’s returned early from multiple big surgeries and he’s carried a huge weight on his back for over a decade.

Cena is in the conversation for the greatest of all-time, but for how much longer will the WWE Universe get to see him perform inside the squared circle? A while longer yet.

Cena says he will go as long as he physically can

Speaking to ABC News, Cena was asked about just how long he has left in the WWE. The 16-time World Heavyweight Champion said that there is a “definitive end in sight” but that he is going to do it for as long as he “physically can.”

Injuries for Cena haven’t always been frequent, they’ve been few and far between, but when he does suffer an injury, he takes a good bit of time away.

There’s a clear sign that shouldering the burden of the WWE for a number of years is having an effect on Cena, just recently there were reports about him cutting down on the amount of house shows he performs on.

Whether or not they are true is another thing, but Cena isn’t going to be around forever.

Cena’s reach inside and outside the WWE

Cena is hugely popular and talented, not just in the WWE but in the entertainment world too. He’s starred in a number of movies and has played smaller parts in quite a few more, but Cena doesn’t give a definite answer on whether or not that is his future.

He could easily follow a similar path set by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in movies but Cena said that whenever he is asked if he’s moving towards that, the reaction is always that of shock when he says “I’m not.

Cena’s reach in the WWE is already massive. To turn away from that right now could be a completely bad idea, that is something Cena understands. He asked the question about why would he want to “turn off 650 million global viewers” and “half a billion social accounts.”

As it stands, Cena has just over eight million Twitter followers and 42 million Facebook likes.

Knowing when it’s time to call it quits

Cena admits that he isn’t going to hang around the WWE just for the sake of it. He said he’s not going to be like he’s “hanging on to his spot” but he just wants to “be involved.”

In the past two years, Cena’s contribution to the WWE has been much more welcomed now that he is taking on newer challenges. His United States Championship open challenge was a huge part of Monday Night Raw last year.

When it’s time to call it quits, Cena will know, but his time isn’t up just yet. His time is actually right now.
