Following the completion of his move to transfer, Rob Holding believes he’s joined a massive club and it’s something that the England youth international has dreamt of.

The 20-year-old joined Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers with a fee believed to be about £2 million, signing a long-term contract with last season’s Premier League runners-up.

When the central defender first heard of Arsene Wenger’s interest, the youngster “was over the moon” whilst he “couldn’t believe it at first because of the size of the club.”

Whilst Arsenal have been criticised in the past for sticking to youth players, this was just one decision which made him join the Emirates outfit.

“It gives young players a massive boost,” Holding to Arsenal Player. “They know that if they work hard and stick to what they know, they’ll get the chance. It’s what we work for.”

A lot of competition for the youngster

Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Calum Chambers and Gabriel all sit ahead of the England youngster in the pecking order, whilst Holding says playing with such players will only “improve” him as a player.

“It will push me to new boundaries and hopefully I can prove my worth,” added Holding.

Another decision as to why the 20-year-old opted to sign for Arsenal, was their style of football that they play.

“It’s definitely the style of football – the way they pass it, those sharp one-twos around the box,” added Holding. “They’ve always played nice football, they’ve got a reputation for playing nice football. That suits me and hopefully I can bring what I do.”

Not only can the defender play in the centre, but he can also play at right-back should the occasion arise.

Speaking about his versatility, Holding said: “It gives you more chance of getting in the team,” with the “more positions you can cover.

“If they need me to play anywhere along the back, I’ll be more than happy to do so.”

Holding has already taken part in his first training session with the Gunners, along with new signing Granit Xhaka.
