INCIDENTSThe second leg of the UEFA Women's Champions League Round of 32 tie between the Frauen-Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, and the 2016 SWPL Cup Winners, Hibernian. The match was played at Grünwalderstrasse.

Hibernian produced a much-improved performance in the second leg as they were eliminated by the Frauen-Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich 4-1.

Team news

Being 6-0 up after the first leg, it was no surprise that Bayern Munich made five changes from the first leg with Manuela Zinsberger playing in goal, Leonie Maier coming in at left-back, Anna Gerhardt and Katharina Baunach replacing Melanie Leupolz and Sara Däbritz in central midfield and Nicole Rosler replacing Vivianne Miedema up front.

Hibernian made just one change with Emma Brownlie replacing Chelsea Cornet as they moved to a 4-1-4-1 formation to improve their defensive solidity. Having Brownlie playing an anchor role in midfield seemed to give more license to Rachel McLauchlan, Abigail Harrison and Lizzie Arnot to get forward.

Bayern take an early lead

In the first leg, Bayern's main threat was from wing-play and once again it was the same with Rosler having a shot saved by Jenna Fife early on.

Bayern took the lead in the sixth minute when Viktoria Schnaderbeck's cross picked out Anna Gerhardt whose finish gave Fife no chance.

The home side had a couple of chances from corners soon after with Lisa Evans shooting wide and Stephanie van der Gragt heading just over.

Bayern continued to threaten through crosses with Verena Faißt picking out Evans who headed wide before the Scottish international missed the target from Katharina Baunach.

Finally, Evans converted a chance as Bayern doubled their advantage with the move coming through the middle. A slick passing move allowed Faißt to pick out Evans in space on the edge of the box and her shot found the top corner, despite Fife getting a hand to it.

Five minutes later, it was 3-0 when Gerhardt escaped several defenders and her left-footed shot found the bottom corner.

Harrison scores a stunning goal

Hibernian though pulled a goal back the next minute. Lizzie Arnot's cross wasn't fully cleared by Baunach, and Harrison took full advantage with a stunning strike that found the top corner.

A great run through the middle by McLauchlan set up Harrison with another good scoring opportunity, but  Zinsberger got down low to make the save.

Early in the second half, Behringer had a couple of shots that were saved by Fife, but it wasn't long until Hibs started to get more chances. Hibs' captain Joelle Murray had a couple of opportunities from corners with her firstly drawing a good save from the keeper with a shot at the far post and then heading over the second corner.

As the half drew on, Bayern's manager Thomas Wörle made the changes and one of the substitutes made an impact three minutes after coming on. Once again, the home side opened Hibs up through the middle with Behringer passing to Vivianne Miedema and the Dutch forward placed the ball underneath Fife.

Hibs could have pulled a goal back soon after with McLauchlan's superb through-ball nearly sending Lucy Graham through on goal but Maier made a crucial tackle.

Late on, Bayern had a couple of more chances. Miedema rounded Fife but her touch took her away from goal. Although she managed to get a shot off that was saved, she picked out Faißt who failed to hit the target with her effort. And then Miedema failed to connect with Schnaderbeck's cross and the ball fell to Faißt whose shot hit the side-netting.
