Chelsea’s unbeaten record under interim manager Guus Hiddink remained intact with a very late strike from John Terry salvaging a 3-3 draw with Everton.

It was an even first period with chances falling to Willian, Brian Oviedo and Kevin Mirallas but none of them could take their chances and break the deadlock.

The second period sprang into life in the second period with Terry putting through his own net before Mirallas doubled the lead. Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas got Chelsea back into the match but a late strike from Funes Mori looked to have won it but Terry’s late strike saved a point.

Burst into life

It took 16 minutes for the match to come to life when John Stones was caught in possession, which saw the ball come to Willian, but Tim Howard managed to make a smart save from 15 yards.

A minute later Everton had the ball in the net when Ross Barkley cleverly played it through to Mirallas, who did well to chip the ball over fellow Belgian Thibaut Courtois; he was denied by the offside flag.

There was another excellent chance a minute later when a blocked effort from Barkley fell kindly for Oviedo, though the scuffed effort was dragged wide of the post.

The match bubbled under for a while with the final opportunity of the half coming five minutes from the end. Mirallas cleverly left Kurt Zouma behind and let fly, which had Courtois stretching to palm it away.

Shaky Chelsea

Hiddink’s side looked very shaky as they come out for the second period and found themselves behind five minutes after the restart.

It was a nightmare 700th match for captain Terry when Leighton Baines fizzed a low cross into the area looking for Romelu Lukaku, but it was Terry who tried to get away but managed to put it past Courtois.

It wasn't long after when Nemanja Matic squandered the ball and allowed Ross Barkley through. He only had the 'keeper to beat, but saw his effort cannon back off the post.

One became two in the 56th minute in spectacular style, when Baines shot the ball to Mirallas. He did well to control it and made half a yard for himself, before he fired an unstoppable half-volley into the corner.

Back in it

It didn’t take long for the home side to get back into it with two quick-fire goals just after the hour mark.

The first came in the 64th minute with a ball over the top catching Phil Jagielka on the turn and the bounce drawing Howard out of goal. Costa read it perfectly. as he stole the ball and thrashed it into the empty net.

The equaliser followed just two minutes later. The match was completely turned on its head as Fabregas played a good one-two with Costa and his forced effort at goal caught out Howard, with the deflection taking it into the net.

Hectic extra-time

The game looked destined to end in a draw as the match drew into the added time but Roberto Martinez’s side seemingly snatched it at the death, as they regained their lead in the 90th minute.

Gerard Deulofeu whipped the ball sensationally into the back post - which took the home side's defence out of the game - and Mori was alive to the situation. He flicked home from close range to cause pandemonium in the away end.

There was still hope for the home side as eight minutes were added on, and in the dying seconds of the match Chelsea managed to snatch the point.

Terry redeemed himself for his earlier howler as the ball eventually fell to him after it had been flicked on by Zouma. Branislav Ivanovic and Oscar also played their part and despite being offside, his flicked effort stood and the point was sealed.
