According to reports, Huddersfield Town have signed Chris Löwe on a pre-contract deal from 2. Bundesliga side FC Kaiserslautern.

The club have not confirmed this yet, but sources close to Huddersfield suggest the 26-year-old will join at the end of the season on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract with the Terriers.

Löwe played at Borussia Dortmund under the current manager of the Championship side David Wagner, and the pair look set to renew their relationship in 2016/17.

The journey so far

Löwe started his career in the youth system of local side 1. FC Wacker Plauen, before moving to Chemnitzer FC. He was promoted to the first team there in 2007/08.

He spent four years with Chemnitzer, featuring in over 80 games and scoring an impressive nine goals from left-back.

In 2011, he moved to giants Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal with a fee believed to be worth €200,000. He made his debut for BVB in their Supercup match against biggest rivals Schalke 04 in July 2011, before starting the first game of that season in a 3-1 win against Hamburger SV.

Despite making seven appearances in the double winning side of 2011/12, Löwe found himself alternating between the first and second team at Dortmund, and subsequently transferred to 2. Bundesliga side FC Kaiserslautern, his current club, for €500,000.

In his period with the Red Devils, he has featured 95 times, scoring four goals.

From Rhineland to Yorkshire

It is no surprise that Huddersfield have moved in to snap up Chris Löwe. They have struggled to find consistency at left full-back so far this season, with Jason Davidson failing to impress, loanee Ben Chilwell becoming too highly rated to return, and James Husband only a quick loan fix.

In addition to this, it is believed the Yorkshire club are trying to offload Davidson due to comments made that expressed his unhappiness at the way the club have treated him.

With Wagner and Löwe having worked together before, it could be a perfect fit. In addition to his pace and willingness to get forward, he can also take set-pieces if required, and will provide a good defensive workrate.

This could be the first of a few signings from Wagner's homeland for the Terriers, something which signifies exciting times at the John Smith's Stadium.
