Bayern Munich made easy work of a trip to Augsburg on Sunday, cruising to a 3-1 win ahead of their midweek Champions League clash.

Robert Lewandowski continued his unstoppable goalscoring form by bagging a brace before Thomas Müller sealed the three points for the Bundesliga leaders.

A late consolation from Raul Bobadilla was not enough as Augsburg's winless streak stretched to four games.

Lewandowski makes the difference

To no one's surprise, Bayern dominated the first half but missed a few chances to open the scoring early on. Philipp Lahm's shot was saved after eight minutes before Thiago had a chance of his own a minute later but the midfielder fired just over the bar. Raul Bobadilla then came close to giving Augsburg a shock lead but his effort from a few yards out was saved by Manuel Neuer.

The deadlock was finally broken after a quarter of an hour thanks to Bayern Munich's main man. A low-driven cross from Thomas Müller found Lewandowski in the box and the striker turned excellently before firing it into the far corner to make it 1-0.

Lewandowski went close to doubling the lead and his tally just after the 20 minute mark but couldn't find the corner with a shot from outside the area. Ten minutes before the break, Arjen Robben went close with a shot of his own but it was saved well by Marwin Hitz.

Douglas Costa had the final chance of the half in stoppage time but his shot was saved as Bayern went into the interval 1-0 up.

The troublesome twosome strike twice in the second half

The second half was no different to the first as the visitors came out and controlled from start to finish. Again, a few early chances weren't converted but they finally got their second and it happened to be their top scorer on target again. Just after the hour mark, Lewandowski was found by Thiago and the striker made no mistake, 2-0 on the night.

The hosts continued to be pegged back and were almost 3-0 down in the 70th minute as Robben had another chance but the Dutchman's shot was saved yet again. It was eventually 3-0 with 12 minutes to play as Müller got in on the act and put the ball past Hitz in the Augsburg goal after Douglas Costa squared it to him, leaving the German with an easy finish.

There was a consolation for the hosts as Bobadilla ruined Neuer's clean sheet with a cool finish into the corner. Alexander Esswein's pass found Bobadilla, who spun and fired past Neuer to make it 3-1.

A few late chances for both sides didn't pose any real threat before the final whistle sounded and Bayern continued to edge closer to another Bundesliga title.

Bayern's win keeps them top of the league and extends their lead at the top to eight points. Meanwhile, Augsburg remain in 14th place and are hovering just above the relegation zone by a lone point. Lewandowski's brace propels him to top of the scoring charts with 21 in 21 games.
