The London Lions are announcing top talent at an almost daily rate at the moment.

Kevin Ware is the latest big name to join the team in the capital as they prepare for their debut season in the Basketball Champions League.

Tricky beginnings

Kevin Ware didn't have the easiest start to his career.

In the 2013 season, Whilst playing for Louisville against Duke in an Elite 8 game he suffered a horrible open fracture after falling awkwardly.

He received support from the likes of Lebron James and Kobe Bryant following the injury, and the incident made the news on a global scale.

Ware would soon bounce back and returned to action the following season, and shortly after made the switch to  Georgia State University.

His quality would shine through straight away after he was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in which he led Georgia State to victory in the championship game.

The signing of Ware really shows the desire of the Lions, he's yet again another example of the quality that the Lions will need when heading into Europe to play against the continents top teams in the Champions League.

He will also play a crucial part in the Lions attempt to regain the BBL Championship.

European experience

Like many of his Lions teammates, Ware has proven himself in Europe's domestic leagues.

Following his time in college he has played in Greece for Faros Larissas, averaging 12.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists and has also played in Finland and Canada.

There were many questions asked about whether Ware would return to top-level basketball following his injury and his time in the capital will give him the perfect opportunity to showcase his talent.

"He is an NBA level talent"

Lions boss Vince Macaulay said to the club website: “Kevin ware is a special person, he has known adversity and seen it for what it is, just another obstacle.

"He is an NBA level talent, I believe he needs the right team around him and the right people.

"His Uncle, Marlin Capers played in the BBL many years ago, and speaking to Kevin I have been so impressed by his knowledge of the game, then again he was NBA bound before that season ended.

"I am excited that we can call him a Lion, there is no question he is going to become a firm fan favourite.”

Ware is also relishing the opportunity to play at the Copperbox Arena, he said this:

“I am very excited about having the opportunity to play here in England and even more excited to be playing in the biggest city.

"The London Lions are a great club that is doing great things not just for basketball in the UK, but through communities across Greater London.

"I must say I am very excited and cannot wait to do my part in helping this organization become greater and achieve greater heights.

"Being here feels like home as I have family here.

"My uncle Marlin Capers played here for many years and I am motivated and excited to be here with him.

"From the time I got off the plane and met the team and the coaching staff I felt comfortable instantly.

"We have incredible talent on this team and I know within a short time collectively we will be ready for any challenge.

"I am excited, my teammates are excited, we will take great pride in representing London and the UK with class and hard work.”

Fans will get to see Ware for the first time on the 15th of September, when Basketball Champions League opponents, Neptunas Klaipeda will be the visitors
