Nathaniel Clyne is set to conduct his Liverpool medical as early as next week, after Southampton reportedly accepted an offer for the right-back thought to be in the region of £12.5million.

Jetting home

Clyne is expected to cut his post-season holiday short and fly back to the United Kingdom at some point over the weekend in order to discuss personal terms with the Reds and have his medical. A rumoured £70,000 per week pay packet is on offer, which is a significant upgrade on what he is currently earning at St Mary's.

Providing everything goes to plan, the defender could be confirmed as a Liverpool player within the next few days, as he joins up with the club he has his heart set on moving to.

He will replace the outgoing Glen Johnson on the right hand side of Brendan Rodgers' defence, as Liverpool look to improve upon last season, where they finished sixth in the Premier League.

Old friends and new faces

When they confirm the Clyne deal, Liverpool will have made six signings this summer, before the transfer window has officially opened.

James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez had all been signed by last week, with Brazilian Roberto Firmino bought from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the past few days.

Despite the influx of new signings, Rodgers can be confident that Clyne will settle in due to the former Southampton players at his disposal. Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren are all well known to the full-back, as they make up the £60million that Liverpool have given to the Saints in transfer fees over the past 12 months.

Clyne will also be linking up with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling, who he knows from the England setup and with whom he has made five international appearances.
