Atlanta United picked up their first-ever win over the Seattle Sounders as the Five Stripes emerged with a 2-1 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Andrew Gutman scored in second-half stoppage time to lift Atlanta, who snapped a three-match winless run. Ronald Cisneros scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season to put the Five Stripes in front.

Cristian Roldan leveled in the 68th minute as Seattle slipped below the playoff line following their second defeat in their last three matches.

Story of the match

Atlanta had the first opportunity of the match in the 11th minute, Matheus Rossetto playing in Cisneros in front of goal, but Stefan Frei was on hand to deny the 

Eight minutes later, Caleb Wiley brought the ball up, but collided with Yeimar Gomez with both players going down. After several minutes, both players got up and were able to continue.

On 23 minutes, the Five Stripes went in front. Wiley passed up the left flank to Luiz Araujo and his low cross from the end line found a wide-open Cisneros, who found the back of the net.

Just after the half-hour mark, the Sounders nearly equalized. Alex Roldan sent in a cross from the right that found Jordan Morris, whose header was well-saved by Rocco Rios Novo.

With the half winding down, Rossetto was replaced by Marcelino Moreno.

In the 68th minute, Seattle equalized. A short cross from the end line found Cristian Roldan, his first shot blocked by Franco Ibarra, who had come on three minutes earlier. He converted the rebound to make it 1-1.

Edwin Mosquera, making his club debut and Gutman came on in a double substitution for the hosts with Aiden McFadden and Santiago Sosa coming off.

After the Five Stripes backline cleared, they got out in transition with Thiago Almada finding the run of Mosquera. The Colombian tried to play it back to Almada, but his pass was instead gobbled up by Frei.

With the match appearing to be headed for a draw, Gutman took a pass from Moreno outside of the box, squared up and shot with his left foot, beating Frei high into the right corner to give Atlanta a memorable victory.
