With the news breaking earlier in the week that manager Pep Guardiola will be leaving his post at Bayern Munich at the end of the season, it created a whirlwind of rumours and speculation about where his next destination and it appears that the two Manchester clubs are set to battle it out for his signature.

Guardiola wants United over City according to journalists

According to Neil Curtis the chief sports writer at The Sun, Guardiola himself wants the Manchester United job more than the Manchester City job and is even willing to wait a year for Louis Van Gaal’s contract to expire, but of course Manchester City will be doing everything they can to change his mind again according to Curtis.

This report is backed by Graham Hunter a European Football specialist, who claims that Pep Guardiola wants the move to the red half of Manchester rather than the blue because of several reasons including the falling through of a potential transfer, to Manchester United late in Guardiola’s playing career. Hunter explained "the move didn't happen but when he's come back to Manchester subsequently he's looked at the Old Trafford atmosphere, the legends and he has felt 'this is right for me’."

Will the pull of City be too strong?

While Curtis and Hunter are allegedly sure of Guardiola favouring the move to Manchester United, is the pull from the Citizens just too strong for him to refuse?

Manchester United boast an extensive history, a long list of legends, a decent transfer budget and a famous youth academy. However Manchester City can offer more today than Manchester United can, they have by far the largest transfer budget in the league, the most expansive youth academy in the Premier League and on a personal note two of Guardiola’s close friends work at the club.

Manchester City even offer arguably the stronger squad of the two Manchester sides, so potentially the offer that Manchester City can place on the table will be just too much for any manager to turn down, regardless of the other clubs waiting in line for his signature.
