Middlesbrough winger Mustapha Carayol is to end his four-year affiliation with the club by signing for Championship side Nottingham Forest.

The move was announced on Twitter by Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi, who also revealed that the club would sign Napoli forward Nicolao Dumitru on loan for the season.

"Please welcome Mustapha Carayol to #NFFC who has signed a two-year deal," Al-Hasawi tweeted.

Carayol out of favour on Teesside

The news will not come as a surprise to Middlesbrough fans, who have seen Carayol fall from grace from one of their star players to a player totally out of favour under Aitor Karanka.

His electric pace and goal threat from the left wing made him a fan favourite under former manager Tony Mowbray, but his personality clashed with that of Karanka and he was sent out on loan.

Carayol has spent time with Brighton and Hove AlbionHuddersfield Town and Leeds United in the last two seasons, and will no doubt be happy to have finally found a permanent new club.

The Gambia international, 27, is unlikely to be the last player to leave the Riverside before the transfer window closes.

Fringe players such as Adam Reach and Alex Baptiste could be allowed to depart, while young midfielder Julien de Sart may be sent out on loan to gain first-team experience. There is also uncertainty surrounding the futures of Jordan Rhodes and Albert Adomah.

Further ins and outs at the Riverside

Rhodes is likely to remain at the club with no strikers thought to be incoming, but he is yet to make an appearance for the club this season and is the subject of interest from a number of Championship clubs.

Adomah, meanwhile, is thought to be interesting Aston Villa among others after rejecting a contract offer from Middlesbrough. His potential departure has been made more interesting by the news that Boro are hoping to sign Villa winger Adama Traore, formerly of Barcelona.

Boro have also today confirmed the capture of versatile England defender Calum Chambers on a year-long loan from Arsenal.
