Raul Jimenez had a first-half penalty saved in a game which was largely dominated by the Spanish side, with Wolves' 13-month long European journey coming to end.

Story of the game

With Jonny injured and Daniel Podence suspended, Wolves opted to start Ruben Vinagre and Leander Dendoncker in their place. The latter had the opening chance of the game but he failed to keep his volley down from inside the box.

This change in personnel meant that Adama Traore partnered Jimenez up-front and the lightning pace of Traore proved too much to handle for Sevilla only 12 minutes in.

The Spaniard ran from his own half, powering through his opponents into the box where he was brought down by Diego Carlos and a penalty was awarded.

Wolves' top scorer Jimenez stepped up but the prolific striker's spot-kick was poor and it failed to trouble goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. This was the first penalty Jimenez had missed for the Wanderers

After the penalty miss, Sevilla dominated possession and forced Wolves' back three into their own box as they pushed for an opener after getting away with an early scare.

Youssef El-Nesyri had two efforts miss the target just after the half-hour mark and Ocampos' curling left-footed shot skimmed past the post in what was the final chance of the first half.

This Sevilla pressure increased after half-time as they looked to break the deadlock, with Wolves once again spending extended periods without a touch of the ball.

El-Nesyri almost gave the Nervionenses the lead on the hour mark after the Moroccan tricked his way through on goal and poked an effort towards goal but Rui Patricio saved down to his left.

Wolves were having to cope with wave after wave of Sevilla pressure and it was Jules Kounde who had the next chance. Suso floated a cross towards the back post but the centre-back could not keep his header down.

The Spanish side were relentless heading into the final ten minutes of the game and Ever Banega could've given them the lead late on but his free-kick was tipped over the bar by Patricio.

With only three minutes left of normal time, Sevilla's endless pressure finally paid off. Banega whipped a superb ball into the area and Ocampos beat the Wolves defenders to the cross, heading the ball into the bottom corner.

The late goal was enough to end Nuno Espirito Santo's sides European dream with Sevilla continuing on in the competition looking for their sixth Europa League title.

What next?

Sevilla will now progress to the semi-final to face Manchester United who fought off Copenhagen on Monday evening. The tie will take place on Sunday 16th August in Cologne.
