Tammy Abraham’s 93rd minute tap-in was enough to recuse Chelsea a point following a first-half defensive horror show at the Hawthorns.

Dirty sheets

After conceding three goals inside the first half-hour, Chelsea have failed to keep a clean sheet in 20 of their 21 Premier League away games under boss Frank Lampard.

Moreover, only West Brom [8], Fulham [7] and Leeds United [7] have conceded more Premier League goals so far this season than Chelsea [6].

Defensive errors

With defence still proving to be an issue, The Blues have made three errors leading directly to goals in the Premier League already this season, equalling their total from 2019-20.

Frank’s unlucky number

Just like the new sponsor on their shirts, Chelsea fell 0-3 down after 27 minutes against West Brom - only against Manchester City in February 2019 (19 minutes) have they been three goals down earlier in a Premier League match.

Rusty?

Following Lampard's decision to hand Thiago Silva the captains armband before the match, he became the first outfield player to make an error leading to a goal on their league debut since Issa Diop for West Ham against Arsenal in August 2018.

Lampard commented on Silva's error, saying: “Thiago Silva is going to be fantastic for us,”

“He has been incredible in his career and absolutely, I will not look at him (to blame him). I can talk about the mistakes, they are clear and I am open and honest about that. We are a team but we have to react around that and, to be fair, the team did in the second half. There is nothing on Thiago — I am sure he will stand up and say it was a mistake. But other than that, I thought he was pretty faultless in the game.

“That’s his first Premier League game done and in the bank. We will get a lot more from him as well, especially as he gets fitter and as the whole squad get fitter.”

Away day issues

Since the start of last season, Chelsea have conceded more away Premier League goals than any other side [42]- ahead of now championship side Norwich City [38] who were relegated last season.

Some positives

Kai Havertz has been directly involved in 27 goals in just 28 appearances in all competitions this year (18 goals, 9 assists).

Furthermore, Havertz has had more goals [3] and assists [1] than starts for Chelsea [3]. Exciting signs for Chelsea's record  signing.

Snatching a point

Chelsea have become the first Premier League team since West Ham in February 2011 to avoid defeat after trailing by 3+ goals at half-time, a game which was also against the Baggies at the Hawthorns- which  coincidentally ended 3-3.
