Tomorrow lunchtime Liverpool face Everton in the 237th Merseyside Derby. It is a fixture that has provided red cards, excitement and late late drama over the years.
Like last seasons fixture at Goodison Park, tomorrows game will again go ahead with no fans present. Going into one of the most closely contested derbies in recent years, it's gutting that the city of Liverpool will not be spilled into Goodison, to kick, throw and head every ball for either side.
Jurgen Klopp faced the media on Friday afternoon ahead of Saturday's game against Carlo Ancelloti's side. He had his say on numerous issues, ranging from the season schedule to Project Big Picture.
''They are all back healthy. How fit? We've had one and a half days time to get them match ready."
Klopp has never been one to hide his views on the gruesome schedule footballers are placed under. With the recent international break being the second of the season just four games into the domestic campaign, it amplifies the hectic schedule these players are having to abide to this season.
From the managers point of view, watching his player do extensive travel followed by three games in week (for some) and then being throw into a intensive derby means his frustration is completely understandable. There is minimal care for the players welfare.
''Ali looks really good. Very positive and he made big steps. No timeframe but he looks really good. Naby is not ready, apart from that...they all came back healthy''
Following up from Klopp's concerns on player welfare, he later went on to confirm that Naby Keita was the only new absentee ahead of the fixture.
Alisson is still absent following his in-house injury ahead of the Aston Villa game.
"Ten years for them, long may it continue from my point but we've never once thought about it. We've never had that in our mind. Hardest work for us tomorrow and we will be ready."
It's ten years to the month since Everton last took three points in a derby against Liverpool. Klopp has however only won once at Everton, with that coming in December 2016, via a late Sadio Mane goal.
Klopp had insisted that Everton's recent record in the derby isn't something he and his players give much attention too.
The last three Goodison derbies have all finished 0-0.
"The crowd they sharpen your focus, normal. It's not an excuse, one team scored 7 the other 2, so only 1 team suffered. We know it's our job"
If there was anyone in football who knows the pure value of the supporters being present in a ground, it's Liverpool's manager. Someone who has called on the fans to play their part time and time again over his reign so far.
Klopp suggested that the lack of of crowds, could explain some of the freak results the Premier League has seen this season. With the last matchday seeing Liverpool and Manchester United, both losing by five goal margins.
''All the people I know who are involved are concerned about football in general. There are things we can improve''
With 'Project Big Picture' dominating the national headlines this week, Klopp seems to be on board with the proposal which has been spearheaded by his employers, Liverpool FC.
With numerous clauses, most affecting the game in both positive and negative ways. It has, as expected, divided opinions from various managers up and down the English Football Leagues.
He did not specify which parts of the proposal he had been keen on, but confirmed that he thinks there is room for improvement in the English game.
