With Anthony Martial continuing to struggle to find the impressive form he displayed last season, the Frenchman could find himself on the bench for the weekend's game at home to West Bromwich Albion.

Despite coming into this season off the back of a campaign that saw him fire home 22 goals in all competitions and pick up the club's top goalscorer and Players' Player of the Year awards, Martial has been off the pace so far this term.

Having only scored one goal from seven games in all competitions, the 24-year old has looked like a shadow of his former self.

If that stat was not bad enough, in four league games Martial has also failed to register a single shot on target in the Premier League whilst also scoring an own goal and picking up a red card in that time.

To make matters worse for the France international, he has world renowned goalscorer and veteran striker Edinson Cavani breathing down his neck in competition for a starting place.

New signing Cavani bagged a goal in the last game before the international break as Manchester United beat Everton 3-1 and that can only have aided his chances as he looks for his first start in the red shirt.

Even if the Uruguayan does not get the nod from the start against West Brom, he could carry momentum into the game from the bench - which would pile extra pressure onto Martial's shoulders.

The former Paris Saint Germain and Napoli man was brought to Old Trafford for one reason, to score goals and if Martial fails to fire then surely it is only a matter of time before Cavani replaces him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may keep faith in Martial for Saturday's game, however, it would not be surprising to see him opt for Cavani when United take on West Brom.
