Aston Villa Women have announced the signing of Swiss international Alisha Lehmann from West Ham United.

The 22-year-old most recently enjoyed a loan spell at Everton and was a central figure in West Ham’s first professional season in 2018-19.

  • Staying in claret and blue

Speaking to Aston Villa’s official website, Villa manager Carla Ward spoke of how pleased she was with Lehmann’s arrival:

“Alisha comes with both experience and an unbelievable amount of potential. At 22, Alisha has already shown in recent seasons that she can light up any WSL game.

“I’m delighted she’s put pen to paper and I’m looking forward to working with her. Alisha is a really exciting addition to the group.”

Lehmann arrived in England from her home country, signing for the Hammers from BSC Young Boys Frauen in 2018. She had a barnstorming first season in London, bagging nine goals and featuring in an FA Cup final. However, she somewhat slowed down last season. She made nine goalless league appearances for West Ham before her move to Merseyside. She went on to score one and assist one in eight games for the Toffees.

She also has a good record on the international stage. She made her debut aged just 18 and has 25 caps to date, scoring four goals along the way.

  • Down to business

Lehmann joins Villa as new boss Carla Ward’s first signing. The former Birmingham City manager arrived at Villa at the end of May. She has taken her time in making signings, but she is now finally getting down to business.

Lehmann’s arrival comes after a string of players left Villa over recent weeks. These included Japan international Mana Iwabuchi who signed for Arsenal as well as striker Stine Larsen who is rumoured to be on her way back to Scandinavia with Swedish side BK Häcken.
