More about West Ham's new man

Alphonse Areola has become West Ham's first signing of the summer, with a move confirmed by the hammers today. CulturePSG are reporting that the deal is a loan fee of £1.7m with a buy clause of £11m.

West Ham's new goalkeeper has a rich CV, playing for the likes of Real Madrid and PSG. Areola also impressed on loan at Fulham last season, keeping 9 clean sheets and winning Player Of The Season. Alphonse is also a World Cup winner, being apart of France's 2018 World Cup squad.

It has been well documented that a new goalkeeper has been needed, an ageing and injury prone Lukasz Fabianski joined by Darren Randolph, who just simply isn't good enough to be a mainstay in the team. Areola will provide great competition and could potentially be our starting keeper for years to come.

With the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma, and a back up as good as Keylor Navas, It would've been difficult for Areola to nail down a spot at PSG. A move to the London Stadium is what Areola wanted, European football and a chance to prove himself at the highest stage.

Areola told West Ham's official YouTube channel "I watched some games last season, so I know the potential and the talent in this squad, so I can't wait to start."

Alphonse Areola is a game winning goalkeeper who can provide at the highest of levels. In particular, he's performance against Liverpool FC at Craven Cottage stands out, making some superb saves to earn a point for Fulham.

It was reported for weeks prior to today's announcement that this move is likely to happen, via ExWHUemployee on twitter. A signing to excite West Ham fans, Areola could play a significant role next season in our European campaign, a great bit of a business by West Ham.

Coming with some pedigree, Areola has won 3 Ligue 1 titles, 1 La Liga and a World Cup. A goalkeeper with tons of respect and always a significant figure in any team.
