Sean Dyche was keen to take the positives after Burnley and Watford shared the spoils in a rather tepid affair.

Some cited this as a must-win for the Clarets but the appointment of Roy Hodgson seemed to give the visitors a little more defensive assurance. Nonetheless, it was one of Burnley's easier matches on-paper and many fans will see it as a missed opportunity.

On the game

While Burnley failed to sparkle, Dyche was quick to point to the heavy wind and rain that engulfed Turf Moor.

"It was the harshest conditions I can remember," Dyche claimed with regards to the stormy conditions. "Another clean sheet is pleasing and it gives us a chance to build."

"Both teams tried to play in these conditions and this is probably as bad as I've seen it!

"I thought we started brightly, lost our way a little at the end of the first half then regained it again in the second half. Maxwel Cornet has not played much for weeks and obviously Wout Weghorst is new so they are connections which will hopefully develop."

On staying up

Asked about the prospect of survival, the Burnley boss remained optimistic and used his team's experience of turning up when it matters.

"We have to play them all and we know the position we're in," Dyche said. "It's important we change these draws into wins. We play two top sides next but that's the way it goes.

"We've been strong in the second half of the season historically but we have to go and do that again. We're one point better off than we were at this stage last year. which might not sound a lot, but it may be crucial come the end of the season."

On Weghorst debut

£12-million man Wout Weghorst made his debut for Burnley and, despite not finding the net, he was lively and linked up well with his team-mates. Dyche was happy with his efforts.

He said: "I think he did pretty well. I think he did fine. A couple of chances you would fancy him to take when he settles but I'm sure he will very quickly. He's had a quiet game by his standards but we didn't expect miracles from him. He will get that sharpness. We know how much of a good player he is."
