Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign in style, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 thanks to a goal from Gabriel Martinelli, and an own goal by Palace defender Marc Guehi.

The Gunners started the game strongly and dominated play, but Patrick Vieira's side grew into the game and gave Arsenal a good run for their money, but ultimately they weren't good enough on the night.

  • Crystal Palace

Vicente Guaita 6/10: Should have done better for Arsenal's first goal, there wasn't too much he could have done for their second. Certainly didn't have a bad game.

Nathanial Clyne 4/10: Had a quiet game, booked for a cynical challenge on Martinelli in the second half.

Marc Guehi 4/10: Scored an own goal, could have dealt with the cross better. Apart from that he didn't do too much else wrong.

Joachim Anderson 6/10: Played some good passes over the top of the Arsenal defence which resulted in some decent chances. Did well to adapt his game in the second half to deal with Jesus.

Tyrick Mitchell 5/10: Had a quiet game, but not a bad one. Did well to keep Saka quiet for a large portion of the match.

Jefferey Schlupp 4/10 (85'): Had a very quiet game. Was substituted for Hughes in the 85th minute.

Cheick Oumar Doucoure 6/10 (74'): Had a solid debut in the middle of the Crystal Palace midfield. Made some good challenges and won the ball back well. Replaced by Milivojevic in the 74th minute.

Eberechi Eze 5/10 (85'): Had a slow start to the game but improved in the second half and made some decent runs. Taken off for Ebiowei in the 85th minute.

Wilfried Zaha 7/10: Crystal Palace's best player. He kept White busy the entire game causing plenty of problems down the left hand side. Put a couple of decent balls into the box and was unlucky not to find anyone with them.

Odsonne Edouard 4/10 (57'): Should have scored at least one goal just before half time. Apart from those couple of chances in the last five minutes of the first half he had a pretty quiet game and was replaced by Mateta in the 57th minute.

Substitutes

Jean-Philippe Mateta 5/10 (57'): Had more of a presence in the box compared to Edouard, but didn't really have too many clear cut chances.

Luka Milivojevic 5/10 (74'): Came on to sit in front of the Palace back four but didn't do anything noteworthy once he came on.

Will Hughes N/A (85'): Wasn't on the pitch long enough to make a real impact.

Malcolm Ebiowei N/A (85'): Wasn't on the pitch long enough to make a real impact.

  • Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale 5/10: Did what he had to do, made a couple of good saves, but did have a few shaky moments on the ball.

Benjamin White 5/10: Was played out of position at right back. He did well, especially against Zaha, but the Ivorian did get the better of him in the second half.

William Saliba 8/10: A very impressive debut by the Frenchman. He dealt with everything at the back and made some vital tackles to help his defensive team mates out. Also named man of the match.

Gabriel 4/10: The worst defender in the Arsenal team tonight. Looked nervous on the ball at times and made a few mistakes which nearly proved costly.

Oleksander Zinchenko 7/10 (82'): Zinchenko was really good going forward as well as solid at the back. His positional play was excellent and he assisted Arsenal's opening goal.

Thomas Partey 6/10: Did his job well. Made some good tackles and broke up the play effectively.

Granit Xhaka 5/10: Received a needless yellow card for diving. Made a good block at the end of the first half to deny Edouard.

Bukayo Saka 6/10: Tracked back well to help White out when he needed to. Made the second goal happen which effectively killed off the game and secured the win for Arsenal.

Martin Odegaard 5/10 (92'): Had a quiet game by his standards, he didn't play badly, but didn't do anything too noteworthy. Pressed well.

Gabriel Martinelli 7/10: Scored Arsenal's first goal with a good header but missed a very good chance in the first five minutes.

Gabriel Jesus 7/10 (82'): Looked really sharp and up for it tonight. Pressed really well and showed some great determination to win the ball back at times. Highlighted what the Gunners had been missing in their previous strikers.
